KDYL v2.1 release includes new building with 4K texture, facade, and more

During my recent trip to Doylestown Airport, I took the opportunity to snap a few photos for use in my scenery.  I was able to obtain decent pictures of the Leading Edge Aviation office, as well as the fence surrounding the picnic area.  In addition to the building and fence revamp, I fixed the airport beacon type, which is now correctly mounted to a pole.  The only difference is that the real-world pole is not metal with red and white stripes, but wooden.  I also added two new stationary aircraft, the Civil Air Aviation trailer and shed, security fence, and a few other details.

The Leading Edge Aviation office takes advantage of 4K textures, an X-Plane 10 feature that allows super-high resolution images to be used for objects, facades, and other scenery building blocks.

The picnic area fence also uses high resolution textures (2048×1024).  This is more than four times the quality of OpenSceneryX’s chainlink fence texture.

The KDYL scenery can be downloaded from the Scenery section.  Enjoy!

Pennridge Airport (KCKZ) 2.0 preview

I am currently working on a new iteration of the Pennridge Airport scenery.  When I completed the first iteration of Pennridge Airport, the satellite imagery was a bit dated.  Since that time, the asphalt taxiway south of the fuel tanks has been removed, and the taxiway and hold lines have been repainted.  The 2.0 iteration will reflect these real world changes.  The placement of the runway and taxiways has also been improved per USGS data.

In addition, the blast fence has been modeled from scratch to match the real world specifications.  The blast fence used in KCKZ 1.0 was designed for jumbo jets, not a small GA airport.

Updated Doylestown Airport features orthophotos and other improvements

KDYL overheadMoments ago, I uploaded an updated version of Doylestown Airport (KDYL) for X-Plane 10.  This is my first airport that uses orthophotos to increase detail around the airport.  I also added ramp and taxiway edge lighting, an ASOS station, and other details, as seen in the real world.

The 2.0 release also includes some very important fixes.  After I started to add orthophotos, I noticed the scale was off.  The original airport was based on X-Plane data I assumed was correct.  In fact, the runway was almost 400 feet shorter than in the real world.  In order to accommodate orthophotos, I was forced to redraw the taxiways and lines, and realign the entire airport.  In the end, this was a good thing because I made a lot of improvements along the way.

The README.txt file included with the scenery package provides additional details about the 2.0 release.  Doylestown Airport can be downloaded from the Scenery section of this site.
